Gracie with her finished Harriet’s Hat
Our regular followers will be familiar with our Senior MRI Maakers from Fernlea, and how much they’ve been contributing to our cause from the Fernlea Day Care in Whalsay.
We’ve sent them up hard copies of our patterns as and when they’ve been released along with yarn in the official colours, which they’ve turned into finished items for us to sell.
When we sent up a copy of the Harriet’s Cowl pattern, it was, we thought, something they’d maybe like to keep for prosperity. However, Gracie Arthur surprised us in their latest box of finished items. At over 85 years old, she’s painstakingly hand knit a Harriet’s Cowl!
They didn’t have toggles, so Harriet added some handmade ones herself but the rest is entirely Gracie’s work which is exquisite.
Since hand made Harriet’s Cowls are too big a project to routinely keep in stock as a finished item, we decided to auction it. Finished cowls simply aren’t something we can realistically offer for sale, so this is very much a limited item, particularly given who has made it.
Made in the official colourway with donated yarn, it takes around 13 balls and a considerable amount of time to knit. It’s made with a steak and has toggles with loops to make it an incredibly versatile fashion item which can be worn in countless ways.
THIS IS NOT AN ITEM THAT WILL NOT BE ROUTINELY AVAILABLE IN OUR ONLINE STORE.
