Description
Pictured here is Harriet at last year’s Shetland Wool Week showing visitors the Harriet’s Cowl she was in the finishing stages of designing. We had launched the gloves and mittens patterns to coincide with Wool Week, and the Cowl was to be ready, as a pattern for Loch Ness Knit Fest 2 weeks later.
So visitors were thrilled not only to meet the designer of Harriet’s Hat which had taken the world by storm, but to see her hard at work on what was to be the final pattern in the Harriet’s Collection.
The Cowl, and pattern were finished just in time. Over 500 hard copies have been sold, including at Vogue Knitting Live in New York thanks to The Morehouse Merino Farm and I Thought I Knew How Podcast. Many more have been sold as pdf downloads from our website worldwide too. The design has also been used by tutors teaching knitters the technique of steeking.
Truly unique, and yet versatile. It’s a very special work of art, and completed the Harriet Collection of patterns, which have raised thousands of pounds for the Shetland MRI Scanner Appeal.
Harriet and the MRI Maakers have now raised almost £100,000 for the Scanner appeal, another £4k or £5k will see them over that milestone. The Shetland MRI Scanner Appeal total now, including all fundraising donations and grants has only just over £70k to find. So by next year’s Shetland Wool Week (which we hope will see a return to a more in person format again) the funds will be in place and our collective goal reached.
With that in mind, Harriet has decided to auction the very Cowl seen in the picture above. It isn’t simply a Harriet’s Cowl knit by Harriet herself, it is THE VERY FIRST Harriet’s Cowl, not only knit by Harriet herself but it’s the very cowl that grew as she designed it. It’s the very cowl seen by last year’s Shetland Wool Week visitors as she worked on it in the Hub, the very cowl which features on the cover of every Harriet’s cowl pattern.
